Dr. Bran brings the experience of practicing in a variety of settings including retail optical, private practice ophthalmology and a laser vision center. He is a partner at Ridgefield Family Eye Care and The Institute for Sports Vision in Ridgefield, Connecticut. In addition to comprehensive eye care, Dr. Bran's office provides pediatric care, vision therapy and specialty contact lenses. Dr. Bran and his partners provide sports vision training to professional teams such as the New York Yankees and New York Knicks.

Dr. Bran is a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry and is a contributing writer for Vision Care Products News magazine.

Dr. Chad Gallatin is a graduate of the Michigan College of Optometry. He and his wife, Dr. Deborah Sheere opened their practice, Livingston EyeCare Associates, cold in 2001. Chad also practices at the VA Medical Center where he is a Clinical Associate Professor for the Michigan College of Optometry, the Illinois College of Optometry and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He routinely provides advanced diabetic and glaucoma eye care services. He also provides Orthokeratology services for patients at his private practice. He enjoys helping other optometrists open their own practices.

Chad has been a member of the American Optometric Association and the Michigan Optometric Association since 1992. He is a Regional Director for Michigan Grassroots Optometry and has served as Co-Chair of his local optometric society.

Matt Schwartz is the office manager of Family Vision Center, LLC in Gunnison, Colorado, and an ABO certified optician. Matt and his wife, Amy L. Schwartz, OD have owned Family Vision Center since September, 2001. During that time, Matt has been the full-time office manager at the practice.

Since purchasing the existing practice, revenues have risen 30%, and the practice has dropped all managed care vision plans. In July of 2005, Family Vision Center added a full time associate to help serve the community of 15,000 people.

Matt graduated from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado and has extensive experience in the service industry. He has also taught English at Western State College in Gunnison Colorado.

Cheryl Engels, OD, MBA

Dr. Cheryl Engels owned and managed two private optometric practices in Rhode Island.  She brings the experience of purchasing and reviving an established practice that was in poor financial condition as well as the experience of opening her second office cold just a few months later.  As the only doctor and decision maker for both locations she confronted the challenges that eye care professionals everywhere face today.  After selling both practices to relocate to Florida, she returned to school and received her MBA degree.

Dr. Engels is a 1994 graduate of the Southern California College of Optometry.  She has been a preceptor for the State of Rhode Islands Optometric Intern program and spent five years as a lecturer in the University of Rhode Island's Department of Pharmacology.  She has also taught GoJu Ryu Karate, in which she currently holds a black belt.

Alan Homestead, O.D. is an optometric physician practicing in Seattle, Washington. He graduated from Pacific University in 1980.

In 1999, Alan's knowledge of billing and coding information allowed his own office to drop three low-paying vision plans at once, representing about 30% of his patients. During the next 12 months, the practice gross and net increased 10%.

Alan's specialty area is teaching doctors how to set up their offices for maximum cash flow from medical procedures.

Alan has been an active member of the Optometric Physicians of Washington since 1982, serving on the board of trustees, society president, and on a variety of committees.

After graduation from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, School of Optometry, Dr. Steinberg spent 16+ years practicing optometry. Dr. Steinberg obtained his license to practice law in 1996, and for the past eight years has focused his law practice on business and corporations law, business and commercial litigation, principally in the eye care industry, State Board defense, and compliance with regulations impacting the practice of optometry. In addition to representing numerous doctors in State Board licensing actions, Dr. Steinberg authored the popular Employer’s Guide for Optometrists, has written extensively for the leading eye care journals, and has been a guest speaker to the American Regulatory Boards of Optometry. Dr. Steinberg is a member of the State Bar of California, the Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley Bar Associations, the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, and is admitted to practice law before the California trial and appellate courts, California Supreme Court, the 9th Circuit Federal Court of Appeal, and the Federal District Courts for the Central and Eastern Districts of California.

Dr. Karson is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Villanova University. After completing his Ph.D. in marketing from Florida Atlantic University on the topic of Internet advertising, and the application of “mass media derived theory” towards marketing on the Internet, his research and teaching interests remain focused on Interactive (direct and Internet) marketing. Dr. Karson’s main interests include not only consumer reaction towards Internet advertising in general, but what drives consumer evaluations of company-sponsored Web sites.

Dr. Karson’s research has appeared in the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Interactive Marketing, the Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising, Psychology and Marketing, the Quarterly Journal of Electronic Commerce, and the Journal of Consumer Marketing. Dr. Karson has presented his research at numerous national marketing conferences.

Dr. Barry Tannen graduated with clinical honors from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry where he was the recipient of the Skeffington/COVD Award for excellence in Vision Therapy. Along with co-founding a group practice, EyeCare Professionals, he has co-authored a clinical textbook used by other eye doctors as well as having published numerous papers in professional journals. Dr. Tannen has lectured internationally in the area of pediatric vision and vision therapy. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and is Board Certified in vision therapy as a Fellow in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. Dr. Tannen is the 2002 recipient of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians, “Scientific Achievement Award.”

Bethany Fishbein, O.D.

Dr. Bethany Fishbein is a graduate of the New England College of Optometry. She and her husband Dr. Jonathan Fishbein are co-owners of Somerset Eye Care, and of the Low Vision Center at Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick, NJ. Bethany has served as a trainer and consultant to the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and to Camp Marcella, the NJ State Camp for Blind Children. She has lectured on low vision throughout New Jersey and New York. Bethany helps patients with vision impairments regain independence through the use of low vision aids, and helps optometrists understand the personal and financial rewards that come from adding low vision services to their practices.
